Whites rely on old campaigners in play-off push

Lee Spiller is making his experience count

WHEN Clive Walker was reinstated as Dover Athletic manager last year he wanted to bring experienced players whom he knew he could trust when the heat was on back to the club.

Lee Spiller, Tony Browne and Danny Chapman quickly returned to the Crabble fold, and Walker believes that all three have a crucial role to play in the remaining weeks of the season.

With Whites now under pressure to win nearly every one of their remaining six games to secure a play-off spot, steady nerves are the order of the day, and Walker senses that Spiller and co are making their experience count.

He said: "It’s no coincidence that players like Lee having been coming to the fore in recent weeks because they can handle situations like this, they add a bit of presence to your side when you need it.

"We have started to play better. (Chris) Chase has given us a bit more pace and width up front, but we can’t afford any slip ups now."

Chairman Jim Parmenter said: "The team have done superbly to pull themselves back into contention after we looked dead in the water a few weeks ago, and now we need our supporters to really get behind us."
