Christmas lights put up in Biggin Street, Dover, in October

Some may say it is too early, but workmen were spotted putting up Christmas lights in the town centre last week.

Preparations have begun before Halloween has passed - but Dover Town Council, responsible for the lights and tubes, says the lights won’t be switched on just yet.

A spokesman for the town council said: “I believe they have to be scheduled in because the workmen have to do them all over the country.”

The Mercury was made aware of this by a resident's letter, set to be published in this week's paper.

Former Dover Mercury chief reporter, Graham Tutthill also spotted the installation of lights in the town.

The big switch-on will take place on Saturday, November 22 along with other events.

Details of these will be released by the town council within the next fortnight.
