Wilko denies move into M&S store in Deal High Street despite job advertisement

Wilko has denied it will be moving into a closing M&S store.

The high street shop which sells homewares and household goods has posted a advert for a full time manager in Deal prompting speculation it will replace Marks and Spencer.

However the company has quashed the rumour stating the advertisement is for a store manager in the Kent area.

A Wilko spokesperson said: “We don’t have any plans to open a store in Deal but the best way for all hardworking families in the town to shop our great ranges is either at wilko.com or one of our nearby stores in Ramsgate and Westwood Cross.

"The job being advertised is for a store manager in the Kent area.”

Wilko has form for moving into former M&S stores.

The retailer took up the spot of the traditional British brand in Sandgate Road, Folkestone, in 2006.

Other stores already exist at Westwood Cross in Thanet and Canterbury.

There's only days left until M&S in Deal closes its door for the final time.

The giant confirmed the closure of both Deal and Ashford's stores on February 6 despite huge efforts from residents who launched both online and paper petitions.

The decision affects 45 workers in Deal and 41 in Ashford, many of which will be redeployed to other stores.

Staff in Deal marked the closure a leaving do at Cin Cin on Saturday.

The Ashford branch will close the following week on May 4.
