Flooding hits Kearsney Abbey and Russell Gardens after extreme downpour

Picture perfect Russell Gardens and Kearsney Abbey were partly flooded this week.

Richard Borle, who is the manager of Cullins Yard restaurant in Cambridge Road, Dover, was enjoying a scenic walk with his girlfriend Hannah O’Reilly and dog Pip at 11.30am on Tuesday.

It wasn’t until they arrived that they realised the extent of the flooding.

Mr Borle took the dramatic pictures displayed.

He said: “We needed wellies in most parts – the majority of paths are like streams and very muddy.

“There is tape stopping you walking through the lower exit as that is nearly 12 inches deep.

“It could be hazardous if you fell underneath the bridges and were swept down the waterfall area.”

Kearsney lake has expanded due to the excess water and on Tuesday it was unclear where the edge lay.

This meant that Mr Borle and Miss O’Reilly had to keep an extra close eye on Pip.

Swans were also able to swim across the bank, treating the grass verge as a lake.

Mr Borle added: “The swans were able to just swim over the edge onto the grass without standing up.”

Weather warnings have been put in place by the Met Office, with the prediction of 60-70mph winds to batter parts of the coastline.
