All the latest from Crayford Greyhound Track

Newcomer Panthers Legend looks a force to be reckoned with after an impressive start to his career at Crayford.

This will be the fifth different track the June 2011 son of Killahan Phanter has run at, so take note that he won at all four previous venues and continued the trend in his debut race on November 1 when winning in grade A3 in a fast 23.46sec.

This followed a two-dog trial in which he beat established star Leamaneigh Mick by two and a half lengths, having led Mick from traps to line.

This is not the easiest of tracks to win at in your first full race, so the manner of victory will have him in plenty of punters’ note books.

Earlier this year I started a Greyhound Fantasy League at the stadium. The idea is to give the staff and the public the chance to have some extra fun, while donating a percentage of the entry monies to the Friends of Crayford Retired Greyhounds who home our ex-racers.

Through the Fantasy League we have managed to raise just under £1,000 since February for the FOCRG and have also had, of course, lucky monthly event winners who have also received their pool percentages monies.

The event is open to the public and I encourage readers to join in the monthly league competition which costs £5 to enter for one calendar month.

All you have to do is select your team of 12 greyhounds from a list of 110 dogs chosen for the month’s event. Each time one of your team runs in a race here during the month, the dog earns points for your team.

Only graded races count and the team with the highest total score for the month is the winner.

Full details and entry forms, together with the list of participating greyhounds, can be viewed at www.crayford.com or you can call the marketing team at the stadium on 01322 557836 (option 1).

The October Bitch-of-the-Month is Buglys Elsa, while there were joint winners in the dogs’ section in Dangeray Polo and Canvas Dan.

Elsa and Polo are trained by Jean Liles, while Barry O’Sullivan trains Canvas Dan – featured in last week’s column. Expect their excellent performances in winning four races each last month to continue.
