Charlton received a scare ahead of the new season when goalkeeper Nicky Weaver suffered an injury during the warm-up before Saturday’s Gary Hart Testimonial at Brighton which the Addicks won 1-0 thanks to Chris Dickson’s 54th minute goal.

Weaver was immediately withdrawn and replaced by 17-year-old second year scholar Callum Christie.

Weaver was undergoing a scan this week to determine the extent of the injury but manager Alan Pardew said it was too early to say whether he would recall Darren Randolph from a season-long loan at Hereford.

Rob Elliott, Charlton’s other senior goalkeeper, played in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Grays where out-of-favour midfielder Amdy Faye featured for the first time.

Charlton round off their pre-season match preparation on Saturday with their only home game against Spanish club Athletic Bilbao who finished 11th in the Primera Liga last season.

Meanwhile, Charlton are being linked with Portsmouth central defender Martin Crainie whom they want to sign on a season-long loan.

All Charlton supporters are invited watch manager Alan Pardew conduct a training session between 11am and 1pm at The Valley on Friday, August 1. Admission is free.
