Charlton have appointed Steve Kavanagh as managing director. Mr Kavanagh, who has been with the club for almost seven years, steps up from the role of finance director.

"Steve will provide me with valuable operational support," said Charlton chief executive Steve Waggott.

The Addicks have confirmed that their Valley stadium and Sparrows Lane training ground could be used by a national team preparing to compete in the 2012 Olympics Games football tournament. Charlton's facilities have been included in the official London 2012 Pre-Games Training Camp guide.

This could lead to Olympic champions Argentina or Brazil training in Kent. Mr Waggott added: "It's great news that we have been selected as being suitable as a pre-Olympic training venue."
