Overnight closures at both Dartford Tunnels this Saturday will cause ‘significant disruption’ warns National Highways

Motorists trying to get from Kent to Essex can expect major disruption this weekend.

National Highways has announced overnight closures that will affect both Dartford Tunnels.

Both lanes of the east tunnel will be shut and so will one lane of the west tunnel, reducing capacity by 75% for around 14 hours from 8pm on Saturday, till 10am on Sunday.

National Highways predicts there will be “significant delays” and advises road-users to find alternative routes.

That will not be easy as Transport for London is also undertaking works on the Blackwall Tunnel, which will be closed all weekend.

The tunnel closures are to facilitate work being undertaken at Junction 31 on the M25, which will also see the anti-clockwise carriageway closed.

A diversion will be in place via the M25 Junction 31, Purfleet Interchange, and the dedicated northbound linking road to re-join the M25 at Junction 30.
