New parking scheme for homeowners near hospital

A new parking scheme is set to be introduced in streets around Darent Valley Hospital after complaints of inconsiderate doctors and nurses.

Last week, Dartford council leaders agreed to a consultation which could see a parking permit scheme introduced at Darenth Village Park.

Council leader Jeremy Kite said the problem with hospital staff parking in the area was a "complicated issue" and that the council had been working with Darent Valley for some time in an attempt to resolve it.

He also said the hospital appeared to have "no desire to address the problem".

It was said that because of the £5 a day to park at the hospital and permits being unavailable for people living within a mile and a half of the hospital, many staff looked for free parking nearby.

As a result, inconsiderate parking and issues of anti-social behaviour are having an impact on residents’ lives.
