New McDonald's drive thru in Greenhithe under fire for 'constantly' mixing-up orders

A newly-opened McDonald's drive thru has come under fire for "constantly" getting customer's orders wrong.

Less than two months after reopening its renovated Greenhithe branch the fast food chain is already getting poor reviews from customers.

Many have reported their frustration at finding items missing from their orders or even the totally wrong food in their bag.

Marc Luck, of Reservoir Close, is a regular customer at the branch on London Road which recently added a drive-thru facility but says he has experienced problems with his order every time.

"I think it is a total farce" he said. "I have been through there four times in the last two months and every single time my order has been totally wrong.

"It has either been someone else's order or missing items. It appears the staff just throw some items in a bag and hope for the best."

Marc, a father-of-three, visits either with his family or on his own, on his way to work. The last time he went by himself and he said they still managed to get it wrong.

"I was alone so only had to order one meal," he said. "The girl on the intercom successfully up-sold me a tomato sauce, very politely explaining that it would be an additional 10p or so.

"When I collected my food I politely asked if the tomato sauce was in the bag.

The girl looked at me like I'd just run over her kitten, then begrudgingly stomped off to get the sauce I had been up-sold.

Marc, who is an electrician, said he would not be allowed to get away with this kind of performance in his work and does not see why customer service should be treated so lightly at such a huge business.

He added: "In my line of work if we were to consistently make mistakes then the line manager and clients would start to investigate further."

"If a local independent burger bar opened and repeatedly performed in this way they would soon notice the lack of footfall."

"I don't see how a multinational company can afford to keep providing such a poor service.

Marc realises he could avoid the disappointment of realising the mistakes too late by checking his order before he leaves, but also feels that is insulting to the employees.

"As an electrician, if I complete my job and tell a customer all the lights and sockets are working, I would be most offended if they then proceeded to go to every light and socket and physically check everything I had done.

"It shouldn't need checking."

Chloe Benson is another regular customer who has had her order confused on numerous occasions.

She said: "I have been several times and each time they have mucked up my order. I'm always missing something.

"Once we ordered six meals and all we got was six drinks. How can that even be possible on a nearly £40 order? One time is a mistake, twice or more is just laziness."

She added: "Why should we have to check the order? We pay for a meal, the meal is listed on the screen and they literally have to place the items into a bag.

"I'm completely baffled how they can constantly keep making these mistakes and get away with it."

While Julie Warner, of Knockhall Road, has also been left fuming at the "shocking service".

She said: "I've had missing orders, the wrong food, cold food. The other day they got the whole order incorrect. It was obviously someone else's. It's awful.

A spokesperson for McDonald's said: "We take order accuracy very seriously and have rigorous procedures in place to help ensure customers are served correctly.

"We are disappointed to hear we’ve fallen short of our own high standards, and are reviewing the ways in which we can address this.

"Our restaurant team will also be undertaking additional training to ensure procedures around accuracy are being properly followed.

"We appreciate feedback from our customers and would always encourage anyone to raise their concerns with the restaurant at the time too."
