The plans put forward to Dartford Borough Council would involve adding one mobile home and one touring caravan with associated parking per pitch for the approved gypsy traveller site.

Members of the council's Development Control Board unanimously approved the plans during a virtual meeting yesterday (Thursday).

The proposal was reduced from an original application for eight new pitches, which were subject to objections made by Darenth Parish Council.

They argued the plans would amount to over-intensification of the site, as well as being detrimental to the character of the surrounding area.

They also raised concern that developing the site - which is currently used as a paddock - would result in the loss of agricultural land and openness of the green belt area.
