OFF-SPINNER James Tredwell is in line to make his season's LV Championship debut in Kent's four-day clash with Sussex in Canterbury starting this Wednesday.

The former England A skipper is set to play at the expense of veteran left-arm spinner Min Patel, who misses out with elbow and neck problems.

With Andrew Hall's arrival delayed by fitness testing, and injuries to both Patel and Martin Saggers, Kent skipper Rob Key is without three potential front line bowlers for the re-match with the reigning champions.

Sussex secured a reasonably comfortable eight-wicket win in the season's opener in Hove a fortnight ago, but Key believes the side's problems rest with their batting rather than the bowling woes.

He said: "We really do just need to bat better, I basically need guys getting hundreds and if I start to get that then I know I have the makings of a very good side.

"We all now that Mushy (Pakistan and Sussex wrist spinner Mushtaq Ahmed) isn't an easy proposition and that he got another 10 wickets against us at their place, but even so, we still had opportunities to win at Hove.

"Despite Mushy and despite being no where near at our best we had openings in that game, this time around we have to make sure we make the best of those openings."

As for Sussex, they trained at St Lawrence on Tuesday morning and are set to name left-arm seamer Jason Lewry ahead of new-comer Chris Liddle, but batsman Michael Yardy (finger) and all-rounder Luke Wright (rib) miss out.

Wednesday's action is scheduled to start from 11am.

Kent from: Key, Denly, van Jaarsveld, Walker, Stevens, Jones, McLaren, Arafat, Tredwell, Cook, Joseph, Dexter.
