A member of City of Canterbury Rhythmic Gymnastics Club has been crowned British champion.

Kezi Gore, from Canterbury, won the overall junior title in Stoke.

From the hoop apparatus onwards, the competition was between Kezi and Lynne Hutchison from Bath.

The 13-year-old won the hoop and ball but Lynne was the clear winner in the ribbon. Both girls performed a strong rope routine but Kezi’s score was just enough to give her the overall title.

Head coach Anni Ahmavaara said: “Kezi won the title two years ago but last year she was narrowly beaten by the girl she beat this time. It was a close competition and it was fantastic for her..”

Kezi said: “I didn’t really know the scores when I was competing and afterwards my coach was umming and ahhing about whether I had won or not. Then they read my name out and it was a great feeling. ”

Clubmate Joanna Matcham also had a good event coming fourth.

Other Canterbury medallists included Abbie Wyver who won silver in the under-9s section and Catherine Holness who took bronze in the under-12s section.

Imogen Pike (under-13s), Jordan Croucher (under-12s) and Hulda Svavarsdottir (senior) all demonstrated a marked improvement from last year.

In the under-9s section, Lottie Wittich and Alice Scharmeli both competed at this level for the first time and performed well.

In the individual apparatus finals, Kezi won three out of four titles, scoring the highest score of the whole weekend with her ball routine.

Joanna won a bronze with her rope routine while Hulda picked up four bronze medals with a much improved performance.

In the under-12s section, Catherine won a silver with her rope routine and added a bronze with her clubs and ball routines.

In the under-9s, Wyver won silver while Wittich took bronze in the free section. Wyver also won bronze with her hoop routine.
