Whitstable Town have unveiled former Maidstone United boss Peter Nott as their new manager.

Town chairman Joe Brownett confirmed at a committee meeting on Tuesday night that it was unanimously decided Nott should take charge.

Mr Brownett said he was delighted and pleased to have him at the club.

"He stood out amongst some very fine candidates as the man to lead the club forward," said Mr Brownett.

"At his interview when my vice-chairman Gary Johnson and Andy Short (committee member) spoke at length to Peter, they were as impressed as I was at Peter’s enthusiasm and desire to move Whitstable forward.

"His vision for the way the club should be run matched our own. Peter is the right man at the right time for Whitstable Town Football Club.”

Mr Johnson said he was delighted that Nott had chosen to apply for the job.

"I was very impressed with the way that Peter wanted to be involved at every level of the club," he said.

"Peter will be overseeing the reserves and the under-18s and brings a wealth of experience at spotting potential young talent.

"Whilst he was at Maidstone he was responsible for spotting Chris Smalling, who went onto to Fulham and then Manchester United.

"In addition he progressed four young players through to the England Schoolboys.”
