A local farmer and a village bobby have come to the rescue of a kitten that was abandoned in the country.

A man who stopped his camper van in a country lane at Rhodes Minnis was seen to throw the kitten over a fence and into a field.

The farmer found the young cat and reported the incident to PC Trevor Moody, who is neighbourhood officer for Elham and Stelling Minnis.

PC Moody collected the kitten and took it back to his police station where staff nicknamed it Lucky.

Within hours of bringing him in, PC Moody managed to find a family in Hawkinge who were keen to have the young cat who has now settled in with his new owners.

Meanwhile, anyone who may have information about who abandoned the kitten can contact PC Moody on 07980 770583.
