A 53-year-old man arrested by police in a Kent city for alleged sexual offences has been remanded in custody by magistrates.

Paul Anthony Bures appeared before North Tyneside magistates on Monday charged with 13 sexual offences, including four counts of rape and three serious sexual assaults.

The offences are alleged to have happened in Kent between 2006 and 2007.

Bures was being investigated as part of an ongoing inquiry by Northumbria Police and handed himself into police at Canterbury on Saturday.

He will next appear at Newcastle Crown Court on Friday.
