Road crash victim yet to be named

A woman killed in a head-on collision last week near Canterbury is yet to be formally identified.

The 33-year-old died following a collision with a lorry on Ashford Road, Thanington Without on Wednesday evening. Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses.

Officers were called shortly after 10.30pm to reports that a blue Maestro City van had collided head on with a white DAF lorry. The Maestro van had been travelling from Canterbury towards Chartham and appears to have crossed the double white lines into the path of the oncoming lorry.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by South East Coast Ambulance Service. The lorry driver, a 27-year-old man, was taken to hospital with chest injuries.

The Ashford Road was shut in both directions between Strangers Lane and the Milton roundabout to enable officers to investigate the collision. The road was re-opened again just before 4.30am the following morning.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has any information which could help this investigation should contact Kent Police's serious collision investigation unit on 01622 798538.
