Probe after house is gutted by fire

POLICE are investigating a fire which destroyed the interior of a terraced house.

The emergency services were called to Gordon Road, Wincheap, Canterbury, shortly after 7pm on Sunday to find the property ablaze, although nobody was inside.

People living either side of the house were evacuated as firefighters quelled the flames but could not prevent the home from being destroyed internally.

The 66-year-old occupant was not at home when the fire started and police are now investigating the cause.
