Bomb disposal experts called out after discovery on Whitstable beach

Army bomb disposal experts were called to Whitstable beach today after a flare was discovered by a passer by.

Kent Police alerted the coastguard and bomb squad after the parachute flare was found on West Beach at 10am with its firing mechanism missing.

The device, used by ships in distress, was taken back to the army barracks in Folkestone to be destroyed.
