The A2 at Canterbury was shut by police after concerns were raised for the welfare of a woman.
Officers stopped traffic in both directions between Harbledown and Bridge.
It was reopened by about 8.30pm.
A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 7.28pm on Saturday to a concern for the welfare of a woman near the A28, Wincheap.
"Officers are at the scene and the woman will be passed into the care of medical professionals."
