MARTIN YERBY: Has been an assistant referee in the Premiership for five years

KENT referee Martin Yerby has been invited for an interview to become a Premiership referee.

Mr Yerby has served with distinction as an assistant referee in England's highest league for the last five years and a move to the middle would be a well deserved promotion.

However, it will be a competitive test for the Ashford man.

Only the very best players make it to the Premiership, and so only the cream of the country's referees get the chance to take the whistle in one of the most competitive leagues in the world.

Nine referees have been invited for an interview, with only five or six places available.
