Shopper 'nearly run over by Domino's Pizza delivery driver' who blocked charity shop entrance in Ashford

A shopper says he was verbally abused, mocked and nearly run over by a delivery driver in Ashford after asking him to move his car which was blocking the entrance to a charity shop.

Robert from Lenham, who did not want to reveal his surname, was visiting the town on Tuesday and went to do some shopping while his wife was having her hair cut.

He visited the Pilgrims Hospice shop in Castle Street but when he went to leave at around 1.30pm, he says he struggled to get out the door.

The 58-year-old said: "The car was parked so close I could hardly get outside.

"When I did eventually get out, I took a photo of the driver and it was a Domino's car who was delivering next door.

"If I had a walker, I would never have gotten out the shop.

"He verbally abused me and was swearing and drove at me laughing as he was hanging out his window.

"I suffer with anxiety and although the police said they'd deal with it, it has made me not want to go back to Ashford town centre."

Robert says the situation was particularly distressing because his mobility has recently suffered as he is recovering from skin graft surgery.

He usually walks holding on to his wife's arm but decided to go out on his own to kill some time while she was at her appointment.

However, he says the incident has left him shaken up and he no longer wants to leave his home in case another incident impacts his recovery.

A spokesman for Domino's said: "We pride ourselves on being a positive presence in the communities we serve and take allegations like this seriously.

"The incident is currently being investigated internally with the store team, and we will of course support the police with any inquiries they have."

Police have also confirmed they are carrying out inquiries.

Anyone who witnessed what happened should call police on 01843 222289, quoting reference 25-0664.
