World silver medallist Lisa Dobriskey has dropped a hint of her desire to pursue not only the 1500m but also the 800m in the build-up to the London 2012 Olympics.

The 26-year-old has had a disappointing year failing to medal at the European Championships and missing out on the Commonwealth Games with injury.

She also failed to set a new 1500m personal best a year after winning world silver in Berlin but did significantly lower her 800m time on her one and only two-lap attempt.

The 2006 Commonwealth champion took nearly three seconds off her previous best, set in 2004, clocking 2:00.14mins at August’s London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace.

That time ranked her third in the British 800m rankings this year but Dobriskey is adamant more is to come .

She said: "I wanted to do the 800m at the Commonwealth Games but I tore a little muscle in my gluteus medius and I was upset to miss out."

"It took three to four weeks of rest to clear up and I was looking forward to it because I just haven’t attacked the 800m yet.

"I did one at Crystal Palace but I felt a little bit flat and tired because it was just after the Europeans. I also did the 1500m the night before so it wasn’t a wholehearted performance.

"I’m a bit unsure but I’d love to attack one and have a real go at one. In the past my 1500m has been so good that I didn’t want to miss one opportunity in the 1500m by doing the 800m.

"But hopefully I will attack it a little bit more although despite getting a personal best and being third on the British rankings, it does need improving quite a bit."

However, Dobriskey’s main focus remains on the 1500m and setting about righting this season’s wrongs which ended in fourth at the Barcelona European Championships.

The world silver medallist also finished fourth on three of her four Diamond League outings and admits next year will all be about becoming a regular on the international podium.

"I always finish fourth and there is such a difference from being that athlete to being a champion and I need to make that transition and bridge that gap," added Dobriskey, who also finished fourth in the 1500m at the Beijing Olympics two years ago.

"I have made the transition from junior to senior but from international to world class, I don’t feel I have delivered this year. And I really want to do that next year."
