Hunt for carpet conmen who duped OAP

Police have issued this e-fit picture of a carpet conman who charged a pensioner for work that was never done.

They want to question him following an incident when two men called at a home in Milne Road, Willesborough.

The elderly male occupant was told that the men could fit new carpet in the house. A price was agreed and a quantity of cash was handed over.

One of the men left the house on April 9 saying he was going to fetch tools, and the other man left shortly after saying he would be back shortly.

Neither returned to complete the work.

The first man - the subject of the e-fit - is described as white, slim build, with wavy mousey-coloured collar length hair, clean shaven, wearing a dark t-shirt and he spoke with a London accent.

The second was white, stocky build, fair, balding hair, wearing a white t-shirt and blue trousers, and he also spoke with a London accent.

Trading standards have been informed of the incident, and police are urging householders not to enter into any agreements with callers of this nature.

Anyone with information should contact South Kent police on 01303 289180.
