Scores of people visited the first of three Ashford council exhibitions detailing proposals to build up to 5,750 homes at Chilmington Green.

Dozens of people who live in the hamlet itself, Great Chart, Singleton and surrounding areas attended the borough council’s display at Singleton Environment Centre on Wednesday last week.

The exhibitions are being held by the council to offer residents the chance to look at details of the plans and ask questions of planning officers.

Ashford council says it wants to hear what people think of the Chilmington Green Area Action Plan , a document outlining the planned huge urban extension around the hamlet to the south west of Ashford.

The scheme, set to be built over 25 years, will create around 1,000 jobs and include a secondary school, up to four primary schools, a high street and park.

Visitors to the first exhibition included many opponents of the scheme.
