Flats above former Fabric Warehouse in Godinton Road, Ashford, now complete

Development of a new block of flats above Ashford's former Fabric Warehouse shop is now complete and buyers are moving in.

Contractors started work in February 2020 on the building in Godinton Road which had sat abandoned for years.

The site, previously known as Godinton House, was built in the 1970s as two floors of offices above a shop.

Now it holds 28, one, two and three-bedroom apartments and a Nisa Local shop on the ground floor which is preparing to open soon.

Bethersden-based Clarus Homes is behind the project, which has 41 parking spaces and is now named 'The Market Quarter'.

Chris Dickens, managing director at Clarus Homes, said: "We have only two flats remaining, one one-bed bed and one two-bed, all others are sold and the building is now complete and purchasers are moving in.

"We have a show flat open by appointment with our selling agent Hunters New Homes in Ashford.

"We are proud of what has been achieved here including bringing this empty building back into use for much needed homes and improving the street scene at this end of Elwick Place."

The flats are on the market for £200,000 for a one bed, and £255,000 for a two bed.

Planning permission was gained by consultancy firm Kember Loudon Williams in April 2018 which put forward the application on behalf of developer R & W Holdings.

The building, also previously used by Club Q snooker club, was then put up for sale and snapped up by Clarus.

It was hoped the development would be completed by summer last year but construction was put on hold because of the pandemic.

Next door, plans to demolish the former petrol station canopy at Enterprise Rent-A-Car have been approved.

Bosses at the company say it is in need of repairs which are 'uneconomical to undertake' as the canopy is not needed.

While the changes are being made, the company has no plans to move from the location.
